background

for the love of food

I’m a SF Bay Area-based recipe tester and developer. Originally from Sacramento, I’ve worked on the engineering side of tech for most of my career but have always pursued food-related activities in every spare moment. In 2013, I fulfilled a long-term dream of attending culinary school and completed the program at San Francisco Cooking School followed by an externship at Bar Tartine

Having discovered a love for transforming concepts into successfully styled, stunning dishes, I’m actively pursuing opportunities in recipe development, testing and food styling. I bring a collaborative, communicative, and lively approach to my jobs and enjoy the challenge of working with a variety of ingredients, people and subjects.

recipe testing and development

your food, ready for the spotlight

Over the years, I’ve developed expertise in what makes a recipe work well. My organizational skills and attention to detail have been a natural fit for recipe testing and development. I’ve worked on projects large and small, including the award-winning Bar Tartine Cookbook, Baked Elements, Brew Better Beer, and other well-received cookbooks (additional details here). Whether you need a full recipe overhaul or just minor tweaks and feedback, I can deliver the results with the spirit you’re looking for without compromising your vision.

I know my way around a busy, fast-paced kitchen and my passion for food science and modernist techniques has equipped me with a highly developed understanding of textures and how food and liquids behave in different states. I have a wide breadth of knowledge and experience with traditional areas of cooking, including baking and fermentation.

project management

the devil is in the details

My years spent in the tech world has resulted in a natural transition to the food world. My technical background, natural sense of curiosity and project management skills mean I can analyze projects and recipes from many different angles. I’ve managed projects of all sizes, and I have a track record of developing and delivering meaningful schedules and milestones.

I’ve developed recipe testing processes from the ground up, including methodologies and schedules, as well as managed groups of recipe testers for cookbook authors. Because I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients in so many different environments, I’m able to adjust my approach to best suit the style of the client and the nature of the project.
